Self Referral

Most referrals to other specialists will require you seeing or speaking with a GP. However, there are a number of local services, listed below, that you are able to make self referrals to.

Blackpool and Lancashire – Sexual Health Services

Our team of doctors and nurses provide Sexual Health Services across Blackpool and Lancashire. They deal with a variety of sexual health related conditions, providing testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), including HIV, in line with national guidelines.

Talking Therapies

We are a psychological therapy service offering a range of free talking therapies to people aged 16 and over in Lancashire and 18 and over in South Cumbria.

Maternity Care

Our community midwifery teams offer a full range of antenatal services, parent education, aquanatal, birthing at home and postnatal care. As soon as you find out you’re pregnant, you can refer yourself directly to us by telephoning 01695 656924. There’s no need to see your GP. If you haven’t already, now is the time to start taking your folic acid (400mcgs a day).

We provide information, advice and a wide range of specialist support services designed to help Carers continue in their caring role for as long as they choose and reduce the impact the caring role can have on their own health and wellbeing.

Lancashire County Council – Caring for someone

If you are an unpaid carer of someone aged 18 years or over, you are entitled to your own carer’s assessment. You can have an assessment even if the person you care for isn't receiving any care and support from us. You can have a separate carer's assessment carried out on our behalf by Carers Lancashire, which is a service that specialises in supporting carers or, providing they agree, a combined assessment with the person you care for completed by us.

Stop Smoking Service – Quit Squad

QuitSquad is a free service and can help anyone over the age of 12. We provide you with guidance on the stop smoking products available and support on changing your routines and behaviour, over a 12 week programme.

Find a psychological therapies service in England

You can refer yourself directly to a psychological therapies service (IAPT) without seeing your GP.These services offer therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), for common problems including: stress, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and phobias
